We would be remiss if we did not mention
and acknowledge the events which transpired this past year on 9-11, as
the season was winding down, the unthinkable occurred and America was
forever changed. We at the Mel Fisher Center, Inc. and our
sub-contractors extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences for those
who lost loved ones to these heinous actions. We are also resolved to
protect and enjoy the freedom that this country represents. We are very
aware that as one of the privileges of that freedom, we have been
afforded participation in the recovery of these wonderful historic
treasures, it reaffirms to us that our system of government and justice
do work. We will never forget the attack on America nor the losses we
suffered - we will as a people prevail.
The Mel Fisher Center, Inc. would like to acknowledge the talented help
and tireless input of the following people without whom this report on
The East Coast Shipwreck Project would not be possible. We hope to be
associated with you for many years to come.
We would like to thank as a group in general all of our Sub-Contractors
without whose help and dedication much of the history of this fleet
would remain unknown. To Captain John Brandon and the crew of the M/V
Endeavor and Greg Bounds and the crew of the M/V Bookmaker for all your
hard work and for setting the standard as high as you do.
To Debbie Symington and the Museum staff, thank you for watching over
the treasure and helping to disseminate the history of these sites.
To Bill Moore, Noel Wells, Bob Campbell, Tom Priest and the volunteers
in the Laboratory. Thanks for helping us preserve the past.
To the State of Florida Department of Archaeological Research for their
co-operation on this project.
To R. Duncan Mathewson III and Dr. Eugene Lyon for your continuing
support of the ongoing efforts of The Florida East Coast Shipwreck
Project.
To Taffi Fisher Abt, Morgan MacRorie and Shirley Campbell for keeping
the rest of us organized and focused.
To Kim Fisher for having the stamina to carry on such a worthwhile
project.
